With the turn of the 21st century began the major influx of denizens in Dwarka, New Delhi. A significant section of this populace were Bengalis, who had made the capital city their hearth, yet whose heart reached out for Bengali culture, customs, literature, food and festivals. Few like-minded persons of this Bengali community congregated with an idea to have a socio-cultural platform for Bengalis in Dwarka. Thus was born Aikotaan in 2002.
Over the last few years of its existence, Aikotaan has consolidated its network among its members and vast number of well-wishers by organizing several events with great fanfare, pomp and gaiety. The include the Durga Puja, Kali Puja, Saraswati Puja, Holi, Poila Boishakh, Annual Picnic……..It has actively espoused various social causes and forever sprung to support anybody in distress. Aikotaan is gradually weaving a web of harmony around the lives of Bengalis in Dwarka who are participating in its initiatives with ever-increasing fervour.
One of the biggest initiatives that Aikotaan has embarked upon, is the setting up of a Kalibari – a central temple complex housing several other services like a library, dharmshala, charitable dispensary, etc. As plans are being generated and resources being mustered, Aikotaan seeks the blessings of the Almighty and everybody to be successful in its endeavours.
